How to Calculate Sales Tax
To add sales tax, multiply the price by the tax rate as a decimal and add the result to the price. To reverse it, divide the tax-included total by 1 plus the tax rate. Do not simply subtract the rate percentage from the total, because tax was calculated on the smaller pre-tax price.
